The big guns of e-commerce are the go-to place to buy everything, building deeply entrenched habits. With our customer happy with the current toy buying experience on these sites, our key challenge was:
How do we design a toy shopping experience that is unique and also true to the Hamleys brand image?
Shopping for toys, easy and fun!
Buying toys should be a fun and joyful experience, and not like buying a smartphone. Armed with extensive research on the consumers buying habits, through interviews and role-playing as sales staff at Hamleys stores, we got deep insights that allowed us to:
Sip, Sup, Swipe!
This is the Netflix and Instagram generation, which swipes and scrolls to browse. For kids born in the smartphone era, it's the only way. Infinite carousels on the site was a faster and familiar way for them to find content on their fingertips.

Device Agnostic design
The UI/ UX of the site was designed to be transferable and respond to the user’s behaviour and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation. It has helped in giving the user a seamless shopping experience.

Multiple entry points to explore
Research in the store showed us parents always start with age as the first criterion. That's why in terms of information hierarchy it sits on top of the home page.

One of the many exciting journeys a child would take. Best part - they need just one click to see the details of the toy.

An adult who's looking for a gift usually knows the favourite brands of the child that they can't go wrong with. Their journey would then start from Featured Brands.

Banners that truly 'Spread joy'
On the home page we introduced visitors to an adorable and playful character, who they would see popping up around the website, doing curious things!
